The Must See Trailer for ‘The Death of “Superman Lives”‘ Documentary

01111111

This documentary is the untold story of the Superman movie that was supposed to star the human meme, Nicolas Cage, but was canceled shortly before production began.  This documentary is going to show exactly how far into pre-production they went with costumes being made and tons of concept art of course the infamous script.  It will explore what the film was about and why it was canceled.  It’s going to feature interviews with key players involved with the film.

The documentary was made by Metalocalypse producer Jon Schnepp and funded was through Kickstarter.

I first heard about ‘Superman Lives’ from writer/director Kevin Smith.  He told an incredible (and hilarious) story that came to him writing the script for the film on his DVD ‘An Evening with Kevin Smith’.

Kickstarter: Spike Lee’s new ‘Joint’ is on track to get funding

In 22 days ‘Spike Lee’ has broken past 1 million dollars on for his Kickstarter Campaign.  He has about a week left to garner the remaining 20% of the amount requested, which is plenty of time to go above and beyond the initial goal.

“Human beings who are addicted to blood. Funny, sexy, and bloody (and it’s not “Blacula”)…”

“This film is a BLOOD THRILLER. It’s about people who are not Vampires but nonetheless are BLOOD ADDICTS. It’s also a Psychological Thriller. It will work on several different layers. The Audience will be scared, but there will be good amounts of humor too.” -Spike Lee

This is the only description Spike Lee has given for the next movie he will be making if he can get the funding.

Zach Braff made waves earlier this year when he got funding for his next movie via Kickstarter.  Many people believe that Zach Braff has the means and connections as a quasi-celebrity (he has over 1 million twitter followers) to get a movie made without resorting to crowdfunding.  Braff’s project title ‘Wish I was Here’ made over 3 million dollars.  Now it appears that Spike Lee is following suit by starting a kickstarter campaign of his own.  The difference between Spike Lee and Zach Braff (among many other things) is that Braff has only directed one feature length film before and Spike Lee has made literally dozens including the remake of Oldboy due later this year.

Watch the first 2 episodes of ‘Video Game High School’ Season 2

Season 2 of ‘Video Game High School’ is the third highest funded project in the Film and Video category on kickstarter.  It made over 800,000 dollars in pledges from the fans of freddiew.  The first season had great writing and a ton of pop culture references and the second season is shaping up to be just as good.  If you haven’t seen the first season I highly recommend you check it out.  The production qualities of the series justify the high kickstarter budgets as it is shot more like a movie than most web series.

Two Different ‘Back to the Future’ Documentaries?

back-to-the-future-DeLorean

In what is probably a huge coincidence, there appears to be two separate ‘Back to the Future’ documentaries being crowdfunded at the same time.  One is on indiegogo and the other is on kickstarter.  Both films feature interviews with the writer/creator of ‘Back to the Future’.

‘The Time Machinists’ by Sam Macaroni is being funded on indiegogo.com.

This documentary is the “movie about the movie”.
Hollywood legends share behind-the-scenes stories, never before seen artwork, how the BTTF films were made, and why they think the films are still popular after almost 30 years.” – The Time Machinists

‘Back in Time’ by Jason Aaron is being funded on kickstarter.com.

This documentary focuses primary on the impact on iconography of Doc Brown’s Delorean.
“we’ve got an amazing documentary planned out (and extra ideas aplenty for when we blow past our goal at 88 miles per hour) which includes interviews with some really prominent people in Back to the Future circles. From pillars of the fan community to cast and crew of the films. We’ve even got eyes on an original Time Machine. (Yes, the only privately-owned which happened to have been DeLorean featured in our trailer. It’s the star of the film!)” – Back in Time

For my money (based on the trailers alone) ‘The Time Machinists’ looks to be the all around more interesting project with its own sense of humor that is immediately apparent.
