Trailer for “The Death of ‘Superman Lives'”

“The Full Trailer for the feature length documentary “The Death of Superman Lives; What Happened?” featuring interviews with Tim Burton, Kevin Smith, and many more.” – Scheppzone

I’m really excited for this documentary.  There was an astounding amount of work that was put into this movie because it was completely abandoned.  Just to see Tim Burton’s take on the whole ordeal is reason enough to check out this movie, but there is also so much more to explore.  The concept art, the test footage, the costume design, and of course Kevin Smith’s comical take on how it all came together and eventually fell apart.

First Trailer for Kevin Smith’s ‘Tusk’

Kevin Smith revealed the first trailer for his next film titled ‘Tusk’ about a podcaster that finds himself interviewing an eccentric world traveler who essentially wants to turn him into a walrus (human centipede style).  This will be the first installment of Kevin Smith’s ‘True North Trilogy’ a series of films all set in Canada.  The second film being ‘Yoga Hosers’ and the culminating in ‘Moose Jaws’ which is apparently exactly as it sounds “Jaws, with a moose”

“WE HAVE A RELEASE DATE!!! Come see TUSK in a theater near you on SEPTEMBER 19th! Trailer debuts at my Comic-Con panel on Friday night! #WalrusYes” – Kevin Smith

‘Tusk’ is about a man looking for his missing best friend who has been taken and bizarrely disfigured in an attempt to make him into a Walrus.  The film stars Haley Joel Osment, Justin Long, Michael Parks, and Johnny Depp.  The conception of the idea for the film was recorded in a podcast ‘Smodcast 259: The Walrus and the Carpenter‘ which inspired him to write a script as a time where he was considering retirement.

Kevin Smith revealed via Instagram the poster for his next film titled ‘Tusk’.  ‘Tusk’ is about a man looking for his missing best friend who has been taken and bizarrely disfigured in an attempt to make him into a Walrus.  The film stars Haley Joel Osment, Justin Long, Michael Parks, and Johnny Depp.

I’m really looking forward to this film.  Kevin has hyped it up to be the best film he has ever made.  The conception of the idea for the film was recorded in a podcast ‘Smodcast 259: The Walrus and the Carpenter‘ which inspired him to write a script as a time where he was considering retirement.

Justin Long will be Stitched into a Walrus Suit in Kevin Smith’s next Film ‘Tusk’

Conceptually ‘Tusk’ is described as being sort of like ‘Human Centipede’.  A psychopath with a weird Walrus fetish sews a man’s legs together, he then sews the man’s arms to his sides from armpits to elbows, and puts the man into a Walrus suit.  The concept was first played around on Kevin Smith’s podcast episode 259 titled ‘The Walrus and the Carpenter’.  The story inspired him to make it into a full script and now he set the gears in motion to start shooting next month and have it ready for release in January.  Michael Parks (Red State) is going to star as the psychopath and Justin Long (Accepted, Dodgeball) will be the Walrus.

Since ‘Tusk’ has a very low budget, they profitability margin is pretty high.  Smith will be using this film to help finance ‘Clerks III’

I cannot wait to see this ridiculous film get made.

The Must See Trailer for ‘The Death of “Superman Lives”‘ Documentary

01111111

This documentary is the untold story of the Superman movie that was supposed to star the human meme, Nicolas Cage, but was canceled shortly before production began.  This documentary is going to show exactly how far into pre-production they went with costumes being made and tons of concept art of course the infamous script.  It will explore what the film was about and why it was canceled.  It’s going to feature interviews with key players involved with the film.

The documentary was made by Metalocalypse producer Jon Schnepp and funded was through Kickstarter.

I first heard about ‘Superman Lives’ from writer/director Kevin Smith.  He told an incredible (and hilarious) story that came to him writing the script for the film on his DVD ‘An Evening with Kevin Smith’.

Nerd Rage! Ben Affleck will be Batman

Image

Warner Brothers has officially announced Ben Affleck will be going toe-to-toe with Superman in ‘Batman vs. Superman’ and it hurts my brain to think about it.  I was hoping it was a joke, but I’m forced to quickly accept it seeing as It has already been reported by ign, variety, slashfilm, nerdist, newsarama, filmschoolrejects, and every entertainment website in the blogosphere.  This news has come incredibly early considering that the film was only announced last month and it is likely that there isn’t even a script for it yet.

This isn’t the first time Gigli has worn a superhero costume on film.  He famously played Daredevil in 2003 (Woo! 10th anniversary) and he played George Reeves as Superman in the film Hollywoodland (2006).

Writer/Director Kevin Smith tweeted his initial response.

Ben Affleck is a longtime friend of Kevin Smith since they’ve first worked together on ‘Mallrats’.  Kevin Smith has an entire podcast dedicated to the Batman called Fat Man on Batman  so he will undoubtedly be releasing his full take on the matter.  Maybe Ben Affleck will pull some strings and get Kevin Smith to appear in the movie like he did in Daredevil.

When Ben Affleck was rumored to be the director of ‘Man of Steel’ I had no problem with that.  He has proven to be a very competent director whose film ‘Argo’ won best picture.  It is likely that taking this role will keep him out of the director’s chair for any possible film he could be making instead.  He will also certainly be expected to star in ‘Justice League’ and at least a trilogy of solo Batman films afterwards, which can hold him up from directing for quite sometime (unless ends up directing those movies).

My largest concern is that I can’t picture Affleck as the man who defeats Superman (because we already know Batman beats him right?).  I also can’t even picture him as a proper Bruce Wayne.  I’m guessing any attempt to act like Bruce Wayne will perpetuate his own celebrity image and completely take me out of the film.

Personally, I was rooting for Josh Brolin to don the cape and cowl.  His age and general demeanor commands respect before he even says a word, yet he can turn the charm on when he needs to as Bruce Wayne.  I would also have been fine with a carefully casted unknown actor.  Unknowns are affordable and you can easily talk them into multi-picture contracts.  Let’s face it, Ben Affleck is going to get hefty paycheck that is mostly boistered up by his A-List status and if he hasn’t signed onto a multi-picture deal you can expect his asking price to raise up.  That means a significant chunk of the budget is going towards the name on the poster rather than the film itself, which means more product placement and possibly shittier visual effects (The difference has to be made up somehow).
